Scottsdale Desert Mountain got a few gift runs early Monday against Phoenix Mountain Pointe, then generated a bunch of their own in a 15-6 win at the Central-East Valley-Fiesta baseball tournament at McClintock High School.

Jason Butler, Skylar Helmbeck and Lars Liguori each slugged home runs for the Wolves. Add seven Mountain Pointe errors and it’s easy to see what kind of day it was for the Pride.

Riley Nielsen’s triple with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted Mountain View to a 2-1 win over Corona del Sol in a game that lasted an hour and 15 minutes. …

Dobson erupted for six runs in the third inning to beat Skyline 9-3 at Mesquite High School. Scott McGaughy scattered 10 hits and went the distance for the win. Brandon Holdridge and Steve Haakennson each had two RBIs for Dobson. The Mustangs also played two other games, defeating Basha 11-6 and losing to Mesquite 6-4. …

Eric Urry of McClintock hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh to seal a 5-4 win over Mesa. Catcher Jorge Carreo went 3-for-4 with one RBI for the Chargers. …

Chris Reefe scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded for the winning run as Gilbert squeaked out a 5-4 win over Basha. …

In other Central-East Valley-Fiesta tournament games, Marcos de Niza defeated Skyline 5-4, Chandler edged McClintock 3-2, Desert Vista defeated Dobson 4-1, and Desert Vista beat Red Mountain 7-4.


Talor Haro had 21 strikeouts as Highland beat Mesa 2-0 and Mountain View 5-2 in the McClintock-Marcos de Niza Invitational.

The two wins make the Hawks 4-0 in pool play, clinching first place in their pool and a spot in the championship game at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Talor had eight strikeouts in three innings of relief against Mountain View and 13 strikeouts in her start vs. Mesa. …

Corona del Sol went 2-0 at the McClintock-Marcos de Niza Invitational, defeating Gilbert 6-3 and Marcos de Niza 12-1.

Against the Padres, Allison Tropsa was 3-for-3 with a triple, and Brittany Giannonatti earned her fifth win of the season.

Vanessa Alvarez went a combined 5-for-6 in the two games for Corona. …

Mountain View defeated McClintock 19-2 in the McClintock-Marcos de Niza Invitational. Toros pitcher Raellene Hutchins (3-2) went 3-for-3 and had three RBIs. Tiffany Panessa scored four of the Toros’ 19 runs, and Stephanie Hess had five RBIs.

In other McClintock-Marcos de Niza Invitational action, Hamilton defeated Tempe 7-1, Tempe shut out Mesa 5-0, Hamilton beat McClintock 12-6, Gilbert beat Dobson 6-3, and Dobson blanked Mountain Pointe 7-0.
