Breaking loose

Higley's Cooper Jones (No. 7) heads for the end zone halfway through the second quarter as Saguaro's Kaelib Jarrell (No. 10) gives chase.

The 6A Conference is officially a crapshoot.

All year long it has been a struggle finding a top 10. It’s been top heavy with Mountain Pointe, Chandler, Desert Ridge, Brophy and Hamilton making up the top five in some shape or form.

But Desert Ridge was dropped out all together at one point; Hamilton was hammered by Desert Ridge; Chandler got smashed by Mountain Pointe.

The Pride and Brophy were the most consistent but now Mountain Pointe is without its top running back and quarterback while Brophy was upset by Basha.

Chandler has rebounded to earn No. 2 after taking out previously undefeated Perry while the Jaguars dropped a spot after a closer-than-expected win over Corona del Sol.

Then what to do with Brophy after losing to Basha? The Bears have been playing better, but the Broncos can’t lose that game at home.

Clearly Hamilton is down compared to past years, but at the same time the Huskies will still be the favorite against 36 of the 39 other teams in 6A.

The second five are a mishmash of teams that have lost to teams above them and probably could lose to two or three teams not in the top 10.

In other words, your guess is as good as ours.

Here is look at the rankings for five 11-man conferences:
