Jay Leal went 2-for-4 with a double and teammate Levi Chestnutwood was 2-for-3 for the Warriors.
CHAPARRAL 12, DESERT RIDGE 0:
The visiting Firebirds (18-2, 6-0) blanked the Jaguars (7-12, 2-4) in a 4A East Sky Region game called after five innings due to the mercy rule.
Kurt Miaso led the Firebirds at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs, while teammate Tim Sherlock finished 2-for-2 with a double, a homer, and two RBIs.
YUMA CIBOLA 6, SKYLINE 5:
Trevor Vega went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two stolen bases and two runs scored as the visiting Coyotes (8-10, 3-5) fell to the Raiders (6-0, 11-4) in a 5A East Valley Region matchup. Skyline’s Cody Pride was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Cibola’s Oscar Lemus went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, including the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the fifth inning.
HIGLEY 10, WILLCOX 1: Robbie Fogelsanger went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs as the visiting Knights (14-6, 4-4) defeated the Cowboys.
Damion Swisher and Jake Delacerda each homered, combining for four RBIs in Higley’s victory.
MARCOS DE NIZA 4, PHOENIX ALHAMBRA 3: K.C. Boyles threw eight strikeouts to help lead the Padres (5-15) over the visiting Lions in a 5A non-region game.
Mike Valdez went 2-for-3 in the loss for Alhambra.
FOUNTAIN HILLS 11, GLOBE 1: Jason Demore and teammate Mark Bolstad combined for three hits and three RBIs.
Lance Beam went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI as the host Falcons improved their record to 18-1, 7-1 in the 3A West Region.
DESERT MOUNTAIN 18, PHOENIX NORTH CANYON 3: The visiting Wolves (16-2, 6-1) dominated the Rattlers in a 5A Desert Valley Region game that was called after five innings.
Dustin Kaats led Desert Mountain at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort, with two home runs, including a grand slam. Derek Gottlieb, Willy Fox, and Jeff Fox all contributed one homer apiece for the Wolves.
CHANDLER 8, CASA GRANDE 3:
Jon Poterson went 2-for-3 and hit a two-run home run to lead the visiting Wolves (2-3) to victory over the Cougars in a 5A Fiesta Region matchup.
Teammate Chris Marvin went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
James Cordero recorded the win with five strikeouts for Chandler.
CORONA DEL SOL 4, AVONDALE WESTVIEW 2: Taylor Smith was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and teammate Matt Webb went 2-for-3 with a run scored to help the visiting Aztecs (11-10, 2-2) slip past the Knights in a 5A non-region game.
Jay Staley (1-for-2) broke Westview’s home run record by hitting his seventh of the season, a two-run shot in the first inning.
HORIZON 7, YUMA KOFA 2: Matt Hall went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple while teammate David Bluth went 2-for-4 to help the Huskies get a victory.
Pitcher Nick Lowery improved to 3-0.
HORIZON 4, YUMA KOFA 2: Nick Lowery went 3-for-4 while Brad Devore went 2-for-3 with a double as the Huskies completed a sweep of the Kings. Jeff Urlaub (6-2) picked up the win for Horizon.
GILBERT 3, MESQUITE 2: Ryan Cisterna went 2-for-4 with a home run while Tyler Broadbent went 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Tigers.
Ronnie Welty hit a home run and Andrew Darr went 2-for-3 for Mesquite.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
HIGHLAND def. CHANDLER, 25-18, 25-20, 25-15: Kyle Moon and Shaun Bluth each had 11 kills as the Hawks (13-1, 5-0) defeated the visiting Wolves in a 5A Fiesta Region match. B.J. Hiapo added 32 assists for Highland.
Tyler Kramer contributed nine kills and 18 digs and Ray Lee had nine kills and seven assists for the Wolves (8-1, 3-1).
MESQUITE def. BASHA, 25-5, 25-11, 25-12: Stephan Peery led Mesquite with four kills and six digs, while Dason Hatch finished with 11 kills as the Wildcats (5-5) swept past the Bears in a nonconference game.
