A pair of Chandler natives look to secure a victory on their home turf this weekend as the Geico Off Road Championships returns to the Valley.
The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series will stop at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler on Saturday, offering fans of all ages the chance to take in all the action in a full day of events.
It’s the fourth straight year Chandler will be the final stop in the nine-race series, which includes nine divisions of racers across a variety of events.
Chandler native Corry Weller, who is the reigning Turbo UTV champion in the series, looks to defend her title against a talented pool of drivers. In April, when the series made its first stop of the season at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park, Weller took home the win in her respective class.
But Weller isn’t the only Chandler native looking to secure yet another win in front of the home crowd.
Mason Prater, who competes in Mod Karts, also took home the win in April. He and Weller both currently hold the lead in their respective divisions.
The full day of events will include racers in the elementary division to teenagers, followed by experienced drivers to end the day. Gates open at 12 p.m. on Saturday, with the first 500 fans receiving a shirt. The first 1,000 fans that enter the Fan Zone will also receive a prize.
All of the action kicks off at 12:30, followed by a driver autograph session before the afternoon races begin at 2 p.m. More information about the Lucas Oil Off Road Series, including admission prices and how to purchase tickets, can be found at http://www.lucasoiloffroad.com/.
