Utility crews spent Wednesday afternoon mopping up the last pockets of power outages caused by the previous night's thunderstorms.

At the peak of the outage, about 31,000 customers across the Valley were cloaked in sticky darkness. But officials expected all customers would have their power restored by 9 p.m.

Salt River Project was concentrating in two areas: far southwest Scottsdale, near Papago Park; and Mesa, centered around Main Street and Greenfield Road. Power was lost to 1,000 customers in each area.

Arizona Public Service experienced most of its disruptions in the far West Valley, but about 60 East Valley customers were awaiting restoration.

Finally, Mesa's municipal-owned utility had about150 powerless customers in the area of 2nd Avenue and Mesa Drive.
