A Gilbert woman who previously was facing charges of aggravated assault for hitting her husband in the head with a hammer while he slept in bed, now has been arrested on suspicion of murder charges.
Marissa S. Devault, 31, who was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault when she was accused of hitting her husband about 2:45 a.m. Jan. 14, was arrested at the family's residence in the 2100 block of Maplewood Street, according to police.
Devault's husband, Dale Harrell, 34, died Feb. 9 as a result of his injuries, according to the Gilbert Police Department.
His cause of death was complications from blunt head trauma, according to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office.
Devault had posted bail for the first offense, and is being held in the Maricopa County Fourth Avenue Jail, according to Gilbert police.
The case involving the aggravated assault had previously been submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office recommending the charge, according to Gilbert Lt. Eric Shuhandler, a police spokesman.
