Police have arrested a teenager who admitted gunning down a Mesa driver in a random shooting last month.

Juan Ramone Hueso, 19, confessed to standing on the median of Southern Avenue near Extension Road at 1 a.m. May 28 and shooting Daniel "Paul" Guzman as he drove by.

The shot was not fatal, but left 24-year-old Guzman paralyzed from the neck down. He is expected to remain in a hospital bed for the next six months.

Police found a gun near Hueso’s house, and a shell casing from the crime scene matched the gun, said Mesa Sgt. Chuck Trapani.

Hueso later admitted in police interviews that he was the shooter and was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault June 16.
