The Higley Unified School District will need principals at both its high schools next year after leaders at the schools announced plans to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
Higley High School principal Larry Rother has accepted the position as principal at Chandler High School. Longtime Chandler principal Terry Williams will retire June 30. The principal position at Higley High is posted on the district website.
Williams Field High School will be led by Terri Wattawa beginning next school year. Current Principal Shawn Lynch, who has led the school since 2010, announced plans earlier to leave.
Wattawa had been named principal for the district’s Cooley Middle School, which will open the fall. With the change of leadership, the Higley governing board named Cartwright Elementary School District principal Randy Mahlerwein as the new principal of Cooley Middle School.
Wattawa, worked six years as an assistant principal at Chandler’s Basha High School before joining Higley Unified School District this school year.
“I’m excited to work with the Cooley Middle School community, whose students will attend high school at Williams Field High,” Wattawa said in a press release. “Our two schools will work closely to ensure students graduate from Williams Field High School ready for college and their future careers.”
