Student bands will battle this evening at Dobson High School to benefit the Child Crisis Center in Mesa.

Senior Jessica Chu, 18, president of the Mesa United Way Youth Cabinet at Dobson, said the service club visited several United Way charities before adopting the Child Crisis Center.

The club organized in October. Other Mesa United Way Youth Cabinets also organized this year at Skyline and Mesa high schools and Mesa Junior High School. Already, the four clubs competed in a "penny war" that raised $627 for Mesa’s Sunshine Acres Children’s Home.

"This is a profile of teenagers that adults need to see," said Mesa United Way official Coleen Niemann. "These are kids who completely volunteered their time and their money."
