By Daniel Ochoa, GetOut
John Studzinski, music instructor at Willis Junior High School, has been named the 2015 Best Middle School Teacher in Chandler.
Studzinski has called Willis his home for the past 16 years, where he has shared his knowledge and love for music to each student who enters his classroom.
“What I enjoy the most about teaching at Willis Junior High School is the students and their hard work and enthusiasm for the program,” he said. “They come in with the dedication for the program. The parents also show their support for the program, which also helps.”
At Willis, Studzinski teaches a plethora of music courses such as jazz band, drum line, percussion and guitar.
By offering a variety of classes, Studzinski has a unique opportunity to get more students involved with music.
“The band has done really well at the state level during competitions and certain festivals throughout the state,” he said. “They got selected for the past five years as top ensembles that played for the Arizona Music Educator Conference.”
The jazz band was the only band throughout the nation to attend the Midwest Clinic in 2009, which is attended by more than 15,000 music educators all over the world, Studzinski said.
“That has probably been the biggest thing that we have done as a program.”
Studzinski attributes the success he has had throughout the years to his amazing supporting of faculty that helps him on a routinely basis.
“I wouldn’t be able to survive without their support,” he said.
