Walmart to close Sam’s Club stores in Chandler, other cities

Walmart will close Sam’s Club stores in Chandler and three other Arizona locations, the company announced.

The closures are part of a larger move to shutter 63 stores across the country, which amounts to about 10 percent of all Sam’s Club locations.

Several of the stores could be converted to e-commerce facilities, according to reports.

The Chandler store at 1375 S. Arizona Ave. is closing.

Waymo gets OK to offer rides in competition with Uber

Alphabet, the parent of the self-driving car division Waymo, has received Arizona’s approval to begin a transportation networking company, which will directly challenge Uber.

Both Waymo and Uber have been testing self-driving cars in the East Valley.

The approval means Waymo will now be a direct competitor to Uber and smaller rival Lyft and will be allowed to start charging for rides rather than offering them for free.

Waymo reportedly has been buying thousands of Chrysler Pacifica minivans and retrofitting them with its autonomous vehicle technology.
