Jaime Breedlove was initially discouraged to pursue a career in education.

The low salary did not make it a promising career, people told her. So, she majored in psychology at Arizona State University. But Breedlove realized during her senior year that she belonged in a classroom and began the process of obtaining a teaching certificate. It’s a decision she hasn’t regretted, as she celebrates her 18th year of teaching in the Chandler Unified School District.

She’s spent most of that time teaching kindergarten through third grade at Hull Elementary School. Breedlove said she loves watching her students learn and grow over the course of a school year. “My favorite thing is taking their weekly writing off the wall at the end of the year and seeing them grow from barely writing a few words on the page, to full paragraphs with such detail,” she said. Breedlove thinks a good teacher is able to make personal connections with each student and leave a memorable impression on their education. “Good teachers take the time to get to know each of their students and help them succeed in not only academic goals, but emotional and social goals as well,” Breedlove said.
