Mesa High wins Puma Duals wrestling tournament

The Mesa High wrestling team, led by outstanding wrestler Bobby Medina, won the 18-team Puma Duals meet on Friday and Saturday at Perry High School.

Mesa beat Cienega in the championship round to claim the title. In all, seven of the top eight teams were from the East Valley.

Queen Creek beat Campo Verde to claim third-place, Williams Field knocked off host Perry for fifth and Gilbert beat Seton Catholic for seventh.

Medina, wrestling in the 113-pound class, earned the outstanding wrestler belt for the lightweight divisions, Queen Creek’s 138-pounder Anthony Wokash was the outstanding wrestler for middleweights and Williams Field’s Chandler Follett, at 170 pounds, was the upper weight outstanding wrestler.
