McClintock shortstop Mary Mentz slammed two home runs and a double off the wall, driving in four runs, scoring three more and stealing two bases in leading the Chargers to an 11-3 victory Thursday at Poston Butte.
Left fielder Audra Emmerson drove in three runs for McClintock on 2-for-4 hitting with a double. Center fielder Shannon Geraty, first baseman Madison de la Torre and right fielder Karina Hidalgo also contributed two hits apiece for the Chargers. McClintock pitcher Shealynn Zimnick settled down from three early runs to shut down the Broncos over the last five innings, scattering five hits and striking out eight to pick up her 12th win of the season.
McClintock, which was winless at the spring break tournament it co-hosts while Zimnick was out of the circle with a leg injury, avenged for the third time a loss at that tournament with a win in a regular-season game. Poston Butte's Megan Clark reached base four times -- on a bunt single, two hit by pitches and a walk -- and scored once while Kailey Candell scored twice.
