Willow Canyon junior sets Marley Park mark

Willow Canyon junior captain Andrea Hill set a course record at Marley Park in Surprise to lead the the Wildcats to a cross country win over Thunderbird, Moon Valley, Copper Canyon and Lake Havasu on Aug. 30.

Hill navigated the grassy 3-mile course at Marley Park in 21 minutes, 54 seconds, besting her nearest pursuer by more than a minute.

Willow Canyon won the meet with 28 points. Thunderbird placed second with 31 points, followed by Moon Valley (85), Copper Canyon (99) and Lake Havasu.

Sophomore Madriqueka Brooks had the second-best time for Willow Canyon runners and finished seventh overall in 24:56.

Senior Alysia Payne finished third among Willow Canyon runners and 10th overall in 25:43.

Freshman Michelle Chavez competed in her first varsity match and finished fourth among Willow Canyon runners and 12th overall in 25:57.

Junior Jessica Torres placed 13th overall and fifth among Willow Canyon runners in 26:10.

The Willow Canyon girls will race today against Millennium, Saguaro and host Thunderbird.
