Outlook: Last week’s loss to Buena could come back to haunt Highland at season’s end. The Hawks blew a 17-0 lead, which playoff-caliber teams can’t afford to do.

It’s not a horrible loss as Buena is vastly improved over last season. The worst thing the Hawks can do is mope and not refocus in this one. Highland needs to be 4-1 after nonregion play ends, given that no gimmes are available once Fiesta Region play begins Oct. 6.

Chavez has not been able to stop each of its first two opponents, yielding 97 points in two outings. Highland struggled running the ball last week with Adrian Ramirez (20 carries for 54 yards) leading an attack that fell short of 100 yards for the game.

Address: 3921 W. Baseline Road, Laveen

Records: Highland 1-1; Cesar Chavez 0-2

Last year’s meeting: Highland 39, Cesar Chavez 19
