Queen Creek opened its season Friday with an 18-3 victory over Desert View in a game halted by a frightening injury.
Desert View junior Alias Noriega had to be evacuated by helicopter following an apparent spinal injury late in the third quarter. At the time of evacuation, Noriega reportedly had feeling in all of his extremities.
“Hopefully the young man is OK,” said Queen Creek coach Curt Leblanc. “It’s part of the game and it’s unfortunate.”
Earlier, it took only one offensive play for the Bulldogs to take the lead when Cory O’Dell caught a short pass from Dayton Jones and ran 70 yards for the score.
Jones added another TD pass to give Queen Creek a 15-3 halftime lead.
