Outlook: Gilbert’s opener was the kind coach Jesse Parker craves.

‘‘That was as good a first game as I’ve had at Gilbert, and maybe ever,’’ Parker said. ‘‘No turnovers by our first team and just a few penalties.’’

The defense was outstanding for the Tigers and had been missing too often in Parker’s tenure at Gilbert. The Tigers limited Sunrise Mountain to 200 yards total offense and one TD — a fourthquarter score.

Thanks to 35 points in the middle two quarters, Gary Venturo’s Aztecs trounced Tucson to open the season, but the road gets significantly tougher from here on out.

Address: 1101 E. Elliot Road, Gilbert

Records: Corona del Sol 1-0; Gilbert 1-0

Last year’s meeting: Gilbert 37, Corona del Sol 6
