Outlook: You don’t need to give a fiery speech to get players up for this game.

At stake are Tempe bragging rights between these two city rivals.

That probably isn’t the environment in which John Rodriguez wanted to make his coaching debut in for Tempe.

“I want to make sure we’re doing the things we’re supposed to do,” Rodriguez said, “and not going to get caught up in the hype and let the chips fall where they may.”

Tempe is in a rebuilding mode under Rodriguez. The story is quite different for McClintock and coach Steve Campbell.

After making the 4A-I playoffs last season and winning their first round game, the Chargers are looking for big things. Campbell said they have to keep their emotions in check and just go out and do their jobs tonight.

Address: 1830 E. Del Rio Drive, Tempe

Records: Tempe 0-0; McClintock 0-0

Last year result: McClintock 17, Tempe 0
