04/23 - Gulla has 7 RBIs as Chaparral blasts Apache Junction

Andrew Gulla collected seven RBIs as Chaparral overpowered Apache Junction, 10-5, in a 4A East Sky Region baseball game Tuesday at Apache Junction.

Gulla's 3-for-3 day included a double and a homer.

Curt Miaso also was 3-for-3, including a double and two-run hit in a six-run fourth inning for the Firebirds (24-2, 7-0). Jordan Marquez went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double for the Prospectors (9-12, 1-6).

DESERT VISTA 11, MARCOS DE NIZA 3: Nolan Litke went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs as the host Thunder (5-4) swept the Padres in a 5A Central Region game. Teammate Chris Gregory was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Marcos' Gabe Gonzales had two hits.

SCOTTSDALE CHRISTIAN 22, VALLEY LUTHERAN 5: The host Eagles (15-6, 9-2 2A Metro Region) scored 17 runs in the first inning to blow out the Flames (0-8 region). Seth Rutt doubled twice with the bases loaded to collect six RBIs in the first inning. He added a sacrifice fly to finish with seven RBIs. Teammate Anthony Schelstrate was 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

CORONADO 11, TEMPE 1: Ryan Chandler was 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and five RBIs for the visiting Dons (17-3, 5-2) as they crushed the Buffaloes in 4A East Sky Region play. Coronado pitcher Craig Heyer struck out nine to earn his sixth win, and Ben Einbinder had in three RBIs.

CHANDLER 4, MESQUITE 0: Dustin Brown struck out 10 as the host Wolves (17-9, 4-7) blanked the Wildcats (5-6) in a 5A Fiesta Region game. Chandler's Reno Bloomquist and Jon Poterson each had one RBI.

YUMA KOFA 6, GILBERT 2: Brandon Thompson was pinned with his third loss of the year as the Tigers failed to hold off the visiting Kings in a Fiesta Region game.

HORIZON 9, PHOENIX SHADOW MOUNTAIN 1: Matt Trink struck out eight batters while allowing only two hits as the visiting Huskies (23-2, 11-1) beat the Matadors in a 5A Desert Valley game. Tyler Falco and Brandon Wood each went 3-for-4 with home runs for Horizon. Trink is 8-0 on the season.

MESA 12, RED MOUNTAIN 6: Tristan Blalock (two RBIs), Chris Ramirez (RBI) and Ben LaMoure (RBI) had two hits apiece for the visiting Jackrabbits in a 5A East Valley Region victory over the Mountain Lions (9-14, 2-9). Chris Caves and Jason Argos each had three hits for Red Mountain.

SKYLINE 5, DOBSON 1: Traver Reinhart pitched a three-hitter, striking out seven batters and without a walk as the host Coyotes (11-13, 4-7) defeated the Mustangs (6-17, 5-6) in a 5A East Valley Region game. Skyline's Trevor Vega was 2-for-2 with an RBI and teammate Chris Handler was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. J.J. Vazquez went 2-for-3.

SETON 15, WILLCOX 14: Neil Kerkhoff fielder's choice scored the winning run as the host Sentinels (15-10-1, 7-5) rallied from a nine-runs deficit to beat the Cowboys in a 3A South Region game. Pat McCarville went 4-for-4 with two homers, a triple and six RBIs for Seton.

Drey Brown had two home runs and four RBIs for Willcox.

DESERT MOUNTAIN 8, MOUNTAIN POINTE 3: Jeff McClafferty and Austin Stockfisch were each 2-for-3 with a double to lead the host Wolves (20-4, 9-0) past the Pride in a 5A Central Region matchup.

Ryan Brueckner added a two-run double for Desert Mountain.

HIGHLAND 5, HAMILTON 4: Cooper Brannon knocked in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning as the host Hawks (14-12, 6-5) rallied to defeat the Huskies in a 5A Fiesta Region contest. Dallin Frazier and Kyle Hurst each had solo home runs for Highland, while Adam Vincent had a three-run homer for Hamilton.

ARCADIA 6, SAGUARO 4: Danny Whalen and Trent Button each had a home run and two RBIs to lead the visiting Titans (14-10, 5-2) over the Sabercats (11-12, 2-5) in a 4A East Sky Region game. Sean Graf (2-for-2) had two home runs and three RBIs for Saguaro.

PHOENIX ST. MARY'S 12, PARADISE VALLEY 5: Nick Evans was 3-for-4 with two doubles as the visiting Knights (7-5) defeated the Trojans (10-11, 5-7) in 5A Desert Valley play. Paradise Valley's Jake Fladhammer was 2-for-4.
