04/26 - Baseball roundup - Sigler's grand slam lifts Westwood

Justin Sigler's grand slam in the top of the eighth inning allowed Westwood to defeat host Mesa High, 11-9, in a 5A East Valley Region game Friday.

Sigler's homer put the Warriors up, 11-7. Mesa (8-19, 5-8) rallied but could only score two runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Josh Vander Kamp went 3-for-5 with two RBIs for Westwood (14-13, 9-4). Josh Mathiesen was 2-for-2 with two RBIs while teammates Sean Scott (3-for-4) and Andre Fernandez (3-for-3) led Mesa. Chris Ramirez went 2-for-5 with a homer for the Jackrabbits.

CORONADO 9, APACHE JUNCTION 3: Ben Einbinder (3-for-4) and Louis Marson (2-for-3) each had solo home runs as the visiting Dons (18-3, 6-2) defeated the Prospectors in 4A East Sky Region play. KC Dick had a two-run homer for the Prospectors.

ARCADIA 15, TEMPE 3: Paul Ferrero had a double, triple and three RBIs to lead the host Titans (15-10, 6-2) over the Buffaloes in 4A East Sky Region play. Teammate Chris Mace went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs.

CHANDLER 9, HIGHLAND 0: Alberto Cruz went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs as the visiting Wolves (5-8) blanked the Hawks (7-6) in 5A Fiesta region play. Teammate Dustin Brown pitched the shutout.

QUEEN CREEK 10, RIO RICO 4: Jody Jenkins went 4-for-4 with a double and five RBIs to lead the visiting Bulldogs (6-7) over the Hawks in 3A South Region play. Pitcher Chad McRae was 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and picked up his first win on the year. Gabriel Beach had two RBI triples for the Hawks.

MOUNTAIN POINTE 8, MARCOS DE NIZA 1: Vic Cegles hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth as the host Pride (16-12, 6-5) defeated the Padres in a 5A Central Region game. Chance Hanepen gave up one hit over five innings for Mountain Pointe.

RED MOUNTAIN 8, SKYLINE 4: Drew Fleger knocked in the tying and go-ahead runs in the top of the seventh inning to propel the visiting Mountain Lions (10-15, 4-9) over the Coyotes (13-15, 4-9) in a 5A East Valley Region game. Britt Goodman had three hits for Skyline.

FOUNTAIN HILLS 12, CAMP VERDE 4: Austin Jones went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases as the Falcons (21-2, 11-0) blew past the Cowboys (8-4) to clinch their third straight 3A West Region championship. Teammate Logan Lewis went 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 11, DOBSON 3: Rhett Pritchard was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs as the host Toros (17-7, 12-1) beat the Mustangs in a 5A East Valley Region contest. Tyler Keeble added two doubles and two RBIs for Mountain View.

CHAPARRAL 11, SAGUARO 1: Ike Davis went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead the host Firebirds (25-2, 8-0) over the Sabercats (2-6) in 4A East Sky Region play. Teammate Ryan Weimar was 2-for-3 with an RBI single and a two-run triple.

YUMA KOFA 15, HAMILTON 4: Tim Martinez hit a three-run homer to highlight a nine-run second inning that propelled the Kings (18-7, 8-5) past the visiting Huskies (20-10, 8-5) in a 5A Fiesta Region game.

DESERT MOUNTAIN 5, CORONA DEL SOL 0: Robby Mowers pitched a two-hit shutout as the visiting Wolves (21-4, 10-0) defeated the Aztecs (13-15, 3-7) in 5A Central Region action. Mowers, Mike Witham and Dustin Anderson had two hits apiece for the Wolves.

HORIZON 5, DESERT VISTA 2: Brandon Wood hit a solo home run to lead the host Huskies (25-2) over the Thunder in 5A non-region action. Teammate Matt Hall added a double and two RBIs.
