Athlete of the week: Whitney Lopus
The Desert Mountain swimmer won the 200-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly helping the Wolves to the girls title of the Wolves Classic at Chandler High.

Football: Chandler quarterback Kyle Hess passed for 270 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 56 yards and a score in leading the Wolves to a come-from-behind 37-26 victory over Westwood.
Football: Marcos de Niza running back Harrison Evans had 147 rushing yards 71 receiving yards in helping the Padres rally past Avondale Westview. Evans had one rushing and one receiving touchdown.
Girls volleyball: Marcos de Niza won the McClintock Invitational, besting St. Mary's two games to one. Red Mountain captured the consolation title, defeating North Canyon in the 12-team tournament. At the Phoenix Country Day tournament, Arizona Lutheran topped Tempe Prep for the title. Phoenix Country Day finished third.
Cross country: Horizon's Andrew Price took home medalist honors at the annual Ojo Rojo Invitational at Tumbleweed Park, edging Mountain View's D.J. Johnson by four seconds. Price's time was 15 minutes, 16 seconds over the 3.1-mile layout.
Golf: Hamilton's Zach Davis shot 1-over par for 27 holes in helping the Huskies capture the East Valley Invitational, a three-day event, last week.
Swimming: Basha's Staci Fellows broke her own school record in the 100 breaststroke in a victory against Westview with a time of 1:14.09. Anthony Preda also broke his own Bears school record in the 100 breaststroke at the Wolves Classic with a time of 1:09.55.
Badminton: Xavier's Vianette Mena beat Gator teammate Zoe Cavnar-Lewandowski to nab the singles title at the Rattler Invitational at North Canyon High School.
Today: Desert Vista at Corona del Sol, 6 p.m.; The 5A Central Region's top teams in recent years meet for the first time in region play.

14th annual Highland Hawks Invitational at Highland High. The 16-team tournament begins Friday at noon and runs all day Saturday beginning at 9 a.m; — Cactus Shadow Invitational at Cactus Shadows. Pool play starts at 8 a.m. at Desert Arroyo Middle School. Bracket play at both the middle and high schools will start at approximately 2 p.m., and the championship is slated for 7 p.m. at the high school.
Prescott Invitational (girls), Friday and Saturday:
Two-day event hosted by Mountain Pointe will be played at Antelope Hills Golf Club; Brophy-Grayhawk Invitational (boys), Friday and Saturday at Grayhawk Golf Club.
Padre Invitational at Kiwanis Park hosted by Marcos de Niza. This is a tuneup meet on the same course as the Doug Conley Invitational.
Mesa Thunderbirds Invitational at Riverview Park hosted by Mesa Community College. Second-year event draws a strong field. Format is different than normal, with runners competing by grade.
