Prep highlights: Scottsdale Christian falls to top 3A team

The top-ranked team in 3A needed overtime to knock off 2A's second-ranked Scottsdale Christian, as Goodyear Estrella Foothills escaped with a 69-67 win in a nonconference boys basketball game Tuesday night at Scottsdale Christian.

Estrella Foothills was led by Arizona State-bound senior Corey Hawkins, who scored a game-high 30 points. Scottsdale Christian had a more balanced attack, as Hayden Johnson scored 20 and John Irvine and Jake Cipolletti each scored 17 for the Eagles (2-1).

Boys basketball

T.J. Burk scored 17 points while Andy Jones chipped in with 15 to help Marcos de Niza defeat visiting Desert Vista 52-46.

After trailing by a point heading into the fourth quarter, the Padres (1-3) outscored the Thunder (3-4) 14-7 down the stretch to pick up their first win of the season.

Duncan Schream led Desert Vista with 15 points. …

Host Desert Mountain took a one-point lead after the first quarter and pulled away from there, defeating Cibola 61-54. The Wolves (3-3) were led by Peter Smith, who topped all scorers with 25 points. ...

Jahii Carson had 15 points and nine assists as Mesa defeated Westwood 59-41. ...

Basha freshman Torren Jones scored 25 points and teammate Judd Welfringer added 16 points and 10 rebounds as the Bears beat visiting La Joya 82-60. Jovan Taylor added 13 points and nine assists for Basha (3-0). ...

Mesquite got 31 points from Isaiah Strong with 31 and 16 from Christian Bower in a 76-63 victory over North Canyon.

Girls basketball

Teresa Wirth scored 17 points to Seton to a 69-39 victory over Saguaro. Corrine Abele added 13 points; Kayla Bustos had 12 points and five stelas; and Mallory Wayne had eight steals and six assists for the Sentinels (8-1). ...

Johnelle Hannah scored 20 points and Andrea Jones had 12 as Dobson (7-2) defeated Gila Ridge 65-34.

Girls soccer

Mesquite got goals by Jordan Pletzer, Amber Hayes and Aya Shourato to defeat Chandler 3-0 in the Diablo Tournament at Tempe Sports Complex.

With the win, the Wildcats improved their overall record to 2-1. …

Led by Ashley Hatch’s two goals, Highland stayed undefeated, blanking Dobson 3-0 in the Diablo Tournament at Tempe Sports Complex. With the loss, Dobson dropped to 0-3 on the season. …

Kelsey Ivers scored three goals to lead host Higley (4-3) to a 5-1 win over Apache Junction.
