Marian Ruf threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts as visiting Red Mountain dismantled Phoenix North, 26-0, on Thursday.
The Lions spread around 21 hits led by TJ Beeson’s five RBI. Jordan Beck and Ashley Hill added four RBI each and Alex Wiley finished with three RBI. Every other Red Mountain player had multiple walks or a hit. Siera Phillips added a two-run home run.
In other Division I softball, Basha beat Mesquite, 4-2. Lynea Klemmedson got the win for the Bears and Hailee Siroky finished with a home run and two RBI.
Horizon beat Desert Vista, 4-0. Tamara Statman got the win for the Huskies. Angelique Pitt finished 2-for-3 and Megan Howard was 2-for-4.
Baseball
Seth Fretheim led Mesquite past Basha, 14-4. Fretheim finished 2-for-2 with two RBI and Matt Waldren was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Dylan Rana got his second win of the season for the Wildcats (7-3).
Garret Enwiller had four RBI and Hamilton pounded out 17 hits as the Huskies beat Casa Grande, 13-3. Cody Bellinger added two RBI and Kyle Pechloff was 3-for-3 with four runs scored. Patrick Murphy improved to 2-0 on the season and finished with nine strikeouts and just two hits in four innings of work.
Host-Mountain View shut out Mesa, 4-0. Jacob Boehme had a triple and two RBI to lead the Toros (6-2). Willie Ethington threw three shutout innings in the start for the Toros.
Boys Volleyball
Host Hamilton beat Perry, 25-17, 25-20, 25-17. Taua Bader led the Huskies with 17 kills. Saige Gonsalves added nine kills, Kevin Gorence finished with three blocks and three aces, while Zach Melcher added 44 assists.
