Lavender leads Mountain View to Nevada tourney title

Brendon Lavender and Nathan Murphy led Mesa Mountain View over Galena (Nev.) 64-59 in overtime in the championship game of the George Maldonado Classic in Reno, Nev. Lavender scored a personal-best 34 points. Murphy scored 20 as the Toros improved to 10-1.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Visiting Tempe Prep routed Verde Valley 79-31 behind the play of Manny Sandoval and Matt Mayor. Sandoval and Mayor each scored a game-high 15 points. Jake Lebeau added 14 points for the Knights (7-5).

GIRLS SOCCER

Nikki Fermanis scored the only goal in Desert Mountain’s 1-0 victory over Chaparral in the Notre Dame Saintly Soccer Tournament championship game.

The goal came off a corner kick by Jordyn Greenberg in the first half. Melissa Brennan recorded her third shutout of the tournament, making six saves. Desert Mountain improved to 9-1. ...

Jessica Lopez’s four goals and an assist were more than enough in Seton Catholic’s 8-0 rout of Page.

Nicole Celestino added a goal and three assists for the Sentinels (4-2).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Behind Aley Rohde, Pinnacle defeated Prescott 53-39 to win the Bradshaw Mountain Tournament of Champions title.

Rohde scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.

Tori Sheaffer added nine points for the Pioneers (16-2).
