Tempe Marcos de Niza’s Ben Sornsin won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events as the Padres boys swin team beat visiting Yuma 114-69 in a 5A non-region meet.
The Marcos boys won just two dual meets last year and are 2-0 this season. In the girls’ meet, sisters Jamie and Katie Zissis won the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke, respectively, as the Padres edged Yuma, 99-84. Marcos’ Marc and Alex Arroyo, who are brother and sister, combined for three victories.
Marc won the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke and Alex won the 200 freestyle. Marc Arroyo, a senior, and Sornsin, a junior, have won every event (eight each) they have competed in this season (four individual and four relays).
Nick Cash, Michael Zoldos and Sam Kosters each won two individual events to lead Arcadia past visiting Higley 114-65 at El Dorado Pool in Scottsdale. ... Wil Hogue set a pool record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53 seconds to help Seton Catholic defeat Williams Field 120-34 at Arrowhead Pool in Chandler. Brothers Aaron and Josh Lester each won two events in the Sentinels’ victory. ... Notre Dame freshman Aaron Brauwer broke the school record in the 200 individual medley by four seconds with a time of 2:08.27. It wasn’t enough, though, as Notre Dame fell to Cottonwood Mingus, 100-77.

Lucia Villalva won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke to lead Seton Catholic over Williams Field 88-54 at Arrowhead Pool in Chandler.... Notre Dame’s Molly Snittjer had an impressive day, breaking the school record in the 200 individual medley by three seconds with a time of 2:23.25. She also won the 100 butterfly with an impressive time of 1:04.58 in route to helping the Saints defeat Mingus 100-84.
Cameron Palmer shot the day’s best round (35) to help Hamilton (181) defeat Highland (202), Gilbert (219) and Chandler (225) at Ocotillo Country Club.
Chaparral scored 174, Cactus Shadows 186, and McClintock a 192 in a 4A-I Desert Sky Region match at the par-36 Ken McDonald Golf Course in Tempe. Trey Kaahanui of McClintock took medalist honors with a 31, two shots ahead of Troy Anderson and Austin Quick of Chaparral. Tyler Wooleridge of Cactus Shadows finished fourth with a 34, and Alex Lloyd of Chaparral finished fifth with a 35.
Kyle Mahoney and Kyle Taylor of Seton Catholic tied for first place as the Sentinels (154), beat Perry High (176), and Tempe High (230) in a 4A-II East Sky Region match at San Marcos Golf Course in Chandler. Mahoney and Taylor each shot a 1-over-par 36. Ryan Mahoney and Ben Doerer, also of Seton Catholic, tied for third with a 40. Jake Argenco of Perry finished fifth with a 41.
Paije Pearson had 20 kills to lead Chandler (8-3) over Horizon at home, 25-18, 25-18, 25-18. Paige Wall added 11 kills in the Wolves’ victory.
Skyline’s Stacy Cox had six kills and six blocks, Jessica Leonard had five kills and two aces, and Arielle Taggert had six kills, but visiting Yuma Kofa came away with the victory. Skyline won the first game, but Kofa won the last three and triumphed 22-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-10.
Westwood fell to Boulder Creek 16-25, 26-24, 25-20, 10-25, 18-16 at home despite 26 assists from Meghan Ryan. The Warriors held a 14-11 advantage in the decisive game but couldn’t get the 15th point.
Cassie Uribe recorded eight kills, five aces and seven digs in Notre Dame’s 25-18, 25-11, 25-9 win over Raymond Kellis. Rebecca Slegers added six kills and 10 digs for the Saints.
Behind Lauren Howard’s 13 kills and 11 digs, Desert Vista defeated Mountain Ridge, 25-21, 25-17, 25-14. Abby Simmons dished out 33 assists for the Thunder.
