After a seesaw battle early, due mainly to playing under an unusual format, Scottsdale Christian settled down to beat host Joseph City.
When the Eagles (2-1) were on offense, they played the normal 11-man game featured in 2A football. However, both teams followed the 8-man format of 1A football when Joseph City (2-1) had the ball.
Mark Hopkins scored four times for the Eagles. The running back had eight carries for 157 yards and two scores. He also had two catches, both for touchdowns. Ryan Tully picked up 176 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries for Scottsdale Christian.
Neither defense adjusted well to the different format early, which led to a close game. But the Eagles started putting it together in the third quarter, as they scored on three consecutive possessions.
Jacob Storrer completed all five of his passes — three for touchdowns — for Scottsdale Christian.
