Scott Kingery hit a 3-run home run in the fifth inning to lift Mountain Pointe to a 3-2 win over Corona del Sol at Wednesday in a Division I, non-sectional baseball game.
Zach Cordova earned the win to improve to 4-0 on the season. Joey Curletta pitched the seventh inning and earned the save.
Shawn Maloney knocked in the Aztecs’ two runs when he homered in the second inning.
In Division III action, Ryan Deblaey allowed two runs in five innings, Brad Benson had a double and two RBI and Scottsdale Christian took advantage of a couple Phoenix Christian errors in a 7-2 victory for the Eagles.
Softball
Chandler edged out visiting Dobson, 3-1, in a Division I, Section II game. Tori Blakesley had two RBIs for the Wolves. Kalli Ohton earned the win. Alyssa Thibodeau knocked in the Mustangs’ lone run.
Corona del Sol ran away with a 12-2 win in six innings over visiting Mountain Pointe in a Division I, non-sectional game. Bria Schmitt collected three hits and one RBI for the Aztecs. Lani Redmond and Nicole Giannonatti each had two hits. Giannonatti also knocked in two runs to go with her pair of hits. Makenzie Bates earned the win.
Bre Macha and Ashley Hill hit back-to-back home runs in an eight-run third inning, and Siera Phillips went 4-for-4 with three doubles in Red Mountain's 11-5 victory against Desert Ridge. Macha earned the win by allowing six hits with four strikeouts. Payton Kornfeind had two hits and two RBI.
Saguaro's Jenna Nimtz hit a game-winning three-run home run with two outs and a full count to complete a wild comeback in the Sabercats' 10-9 victory against Marcos de Niza. The win kept Saguaro a perfect 10-0 in power-point games this season.
Boys Volleyball
Highland defeated visiting Mesa in straight sets, 25-19, 25-18, 26-24 in a Division I, Section III match. Isaac Turley had 11 kills in the win. Jacob Wright added nine kills and Ryan Morrison finished with four kills and three aces. Collin Ward had 32 assists for the Hawks.
Perry defeated visiting Williams Field in three sets, 25-14, 25-20, 25-16 in a Division I, Section III match. Ryan Moore finished with 15 kills and eight aces for the Pumas. Mitch Harris added nine kills and three aces.
