Highland beat Basha, 5-4, in a 5A-I Central region game. Weston Wiederhold scored Gentry Kinsella with a game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jordan Peterson was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead the Hawks. Gary Sheffield Jr. was 3-for-5 with a double, triple and two RBI to lead the Bears.
In another exciting Central Region shootout, host Corona del Sol held on for a 13-11 over Gilbert. The Tigers scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning but it was not enough to overcome a 9-0 deficit. Josh Ethier was 4-for-5 with a double, home run and three RBI to lead the Aztecs.
Softball
Host Mountain View shutout Mesquite, 11-0, in a 5A-I Central region game. Annie Dyer had a home run during a spurt where the Toros scored seven runs in the second and third innings. Val Kaff faced 17 batters in five innings of work, two over the minimum.
Visiting Red Mountain beat Chandler 11-9 in a 5A-I Fiesta Region game. The Mountain Lions scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning starting with Sara Goodrum's go-ahead single. Bre Macha pitched the sixth and seventh inning and earned the victory. Every Red Mountain starter got at least a hit. Kristal Whiteside went 3-for-4 with two doubles, and an RBI to lead the Wolves.
