The Desert Mountain girls basketball team gave a warm welcome to its new coach Friday night.
The Wolves set a school record for points scored while defeating visiting Paradise Valley 81-27 in former University of Missouri player Jodie Tosini’s debut as coach.
Tosini had been Desert Mountain’s freshman coach until Jack Wesolowski resigned for personal reasons earlier this week.
"I’m excited about it," Tosini said. "There’s a lot of talent on this team and I think they’re ready to go."
The Wolves (9-15, 4-4 in region) are currently in fourth place in the seven-team Desert Valley Region.
With Tosini at the helm, the team expects to return to the state tournament for the first time in three years.
"I really like her. She does a lot of focusing on the positives, and she’s just really intense," said Desert Mountain senior Erin Greenberg, who scored 27 points and had 10 assists in the win.
