Bigger venues and nicer stadiums are on tap the rest of this month for several high school and junior high baseball teams in the East Valley.
All six of Mesa’s high schools will have the opportunity over the next three weeks to play three games each at Hohokam Park in Mesa, thanks to the efforts of city stadium and adult sports coordinator Dave Dunne and Mesa district athletic director Steve Hogen.
Each of Mesa’s freshman baseball teams will play one game each at Hohokam and two at nearby Fitch Park.
“It’s a great opportunity for our programs,” Hogen said. “Dave Dunne has done a great job in making this happen for our schools.”
A varsity doubleheader kicks off the April slate of games next Wednesday with Mesa High and Mesa Westwood playing at 4 p.m., followed at 6:30 p.m. by Mesa Red Mountain and Mesa Mountain View.
The Red Mountain-Mountain View game will be televised live by Cox Channel 7 as an added bonus for exposure for the district’s schools.
Admission to varsity games at Hohokam will be $5 for adults and $2 for students with activity cards. Admission for freshman games at Hohokam will be $3 for adults and $1 for students with activity cards.

Scottsdale Christian will face Phoenix Northwest Christian, and Chandler Hamilton High will play Chandler High in regular-season games April 9 and April 12 at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, following Diamondbacks home games both of those days.
The opportunities came as a perk from the D-Backs to the schools for selling tickets to D-Backs games those days with Los Angeles and Colorado, respectively.
