Outlook: It may be hard to believe, but both teams enter this game with something to prove.
Round Valley wants to prove it is ready to play for a championship. The Elks have had strong teams in recent years, but have fallen short in the playoffs.
The Bears want to prove that the balance of power in 3A has shifted, at least for this year.
“We want to prove that we have a good program down here in Coolidge,” Bears coach Carlo Hernandez said. “To do that, you have to beat the tradition of the East Region, and that is Round Valley this year.”
The Elks have dominated this season, giving up just 55 points in their 11 wins with five shutouts, including two straight. Their hardhitting defense is led by linebacker Travis Trickey (6-4, 220), who has 118 tackles this season.
