Mountain View High will not renew the coaching contract of softball coach Dale Goodman, who has guided the school's varsity program since the 1997-98 season.

Mountain View athletic director David Hines said the change had nothing to do with wins and losses as the Toros had no losing records under Goodman.

"Dale is an awesome guy. We just felt it was time to make a change," Hines said. Hines hinted a successor to Goodman could be chosen as early as next week.

At another Mesa school, Skyline baseball coach Bill Roberts has resigned after one season and will be headed to Mountain View to teach and possibly help coach in one or more sports. Skyline's baseball team was 2-27 this past season.

Hines said more of Roberts' coaching duties may be determined by next week. Roberts has coached football and softball in the past at Skyline. He was varsity softball coach at Skyline from 2001 through the 2005 season.
