Kevin Collinge threw a complete-game, four-hitter as Corona del Sol improved to 4-0 on the season with a 9-2 drubbing of host Boulder Creek.
Collinge, who improved to 2-0, struck out four, allowed just one earned run, and didn’t walk a single batter. In the third, the Aztecs’ Trevor Allen corked a grand slam over the fence to blow the game open and Ryan Moore went 4-5 on the game with a double.
SOFTBALL
Haley Temple, a senior who will play at Wichita State next year, threw a no-hitter as Valley Christian won its first game, 4-3, over Bourgade Catholic.
Leadoff hitter and catcher Shelby Richardson singlehandedly produced the winning run in the bottom of the seventh, as she walked, stole second, stole third and scored on the overthrow.
Richardson totaled three walks, three runs and five steals.
GIRLS TENNIS
With the team score tied at 4-4, Molly Hoffman got her chance to redeem her singles loss as she teamed up with Carolyn Christenson to win the final doubles match of the day and give Gilbert a 5-4 overall victory over rival Hamilton.
Hoffman, who fell 6-1, 6-1 earlier in singles, and Christenson, who won her singles match, trailed early in the final match, but came back to tie the score at 8-8 before winning 10-5 in a nail-biting tie-breaker. The Tigers’ (4-0) freshman phenom, Callie Branyan, won both her matches, including a doubles victory with teammate Larissa Price. Darlene Thavilanuvat of Hamilton was the only Husky to win both of her matches.
BASEBALL
Drew Ozanne was perfect at the plate for Notre Dame in its 8-4 victory over Arcadia, garnering four hits in as many at-bats, including a home run. Not to be outdone, brother Matt Ozanne hit a home run of his own for Notre Dame.
