Jimmy Patterson pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and went 2-for-3 in McClintock’s 3-2 win over visiting Lake Havasu (16-11) on Friday in the first round of the 4A Division I state baseball tournament.

David Hartley added a fourth-inning solo home run and Darrel Rosenbaum hit a key RBI single in the sixth for the Chargers (18-10-2).

4A-I

CHAPARRAL 6, AVONDALE AGUA FRIA 3: Senior Jon Bagley had three RBIs to lead Chaparral past Agua Fria at Arizona State’s Packard Stadium.

Trailing by one run, the Firebirds scored four in the bottom of the sixth to complete the comeback.

Senior Jason Jarvis pitched the seventh inning to earn his second save of the season.

TUCSON AMPHITHEATER 10, SAGUARO 0: The Sabercats’ season ended after losing to host Amphitheater in five innings.

PINNACLE 6, TUCSON PUEBLO 5:

Sophomore Bryan Karraker’s single drove in the winning run in the eighth inning to lead Pinnacle past host Pueblo. Brett Nicholas hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third for the Pioneers.

4A-II

CORONADO 12, EL MIRAGE DYSART 4: Cody Fortney hit a two-run inside-the-park home run in the fifth inning to lead Coronado past Dysart at Scottsdale Stadium. The Dons (21-4) were led by pitcher Colin Dunlavey, who remained undefeated on the season with 10 wins.

HIGLEY 3, FLAGSTAFF COCONINO 1:

Jake De La Cerda’s double in the fifth inning scored the go-ahead run as Higley beat host Coconino. De La Cerda finished with three RBIs while teammate Chris Cannon had two hits. Jeff Giangregorio pitched the complete game for the Knights, striking out five.

CACTUS SHADOWS 6, TUCSON PALO VERDE 5: Chris Manship hit a two-out single to right center to score Ollie Goulder from second base to win the game for the Falcons in eight innings.

The Falcons (17-12) were led by Matt Summers, who had two RBIs.

ARCADIA 13, FLAGSTAFF SINAGUA 3: Scott Nugent had a double and three RBIs to lead host Arcadia past Sinagua. Pitcher J.J. Nace pitched the five-inning complete game and also went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Titans (20-8).

COTTONWOOD MINGUS 7, QUEEN CREEK 6: Mingus slipped passed host Queen Creek in an eightinning game.

NOTRE DAME PREP 10, BULLHEAD CITY MOHAVE 3: Adam Bost’s tworun home run led Notre Dame Prep over host Mohave. Dom Piazza had a double and two RBIs and Torrey Jacoby drove in a run for the Saints.

In other 4A-II games, host Douglas beat Tucson Sunnyslope 9-2.

3A

FOUNTAIN HILLS 3, SNOWFLAKE 2:

Mark Bolstead hit an RBI groundout with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, missing a squeeze bunt sign with the bases loaded to drive in Kyle Harless in host Fountain Hills’ win over Snowflake (18-6).

Tyler Ruch went 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Falcons (29-1).

SETON CATHOLIC 10, WINSLOW 4:

Kip Simmerman went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Stan Minatogawa went 3-for-3 with a triple as Seton Catholic (18-2) cruised by Winslow at Maryvale Baseball Park.

2A

SCOTTSDALE CHRISTIAN 11, CAMP VERDE 7: Eddie Kay went 3-for-4 with a triple and earned a win with 3 2 /3 scoreless innings of relief and Russ Edwards hit a two-run single as Scottsdale Christian (24-4) rallied past Camp Verde.

YUMA CATHOLIC 7, VALLEY CHRISTIAN 3: Valley Christian’s three runs in the first inning were not enough to hold off Yuma Catholic as the Shamrocks used 10 hits to beat the Trojans at Maryvale Baseball Park.

In other games, Morenci beat Hayden 6-5 and Willcox topped Phoenix Northwest Christian 7-1.
