The Chandler Valley Christian baseball improved to 3-0 in the Shamrock Classic in Yuma after a strange ending in a 3-2 victory over Holtville, Calif.

With Valley Christian trailing 2-1 with runners on first and second in the sixth inning, the umpire called a balk on the first baseman for having one foot in foul territory as the pitch was being thrown. All fielders must have both feet in fair territory when the ball is put into play.

The runners moved up to second and third and Sam Moore lined a single to the outfield to score the tying run.

Then with runners on first and third, the umpire called a balk on the same first baseman, which scored the go-ahead run for the Trojans.

Earlier in the day, Valley Christian defeated Camp Verde 10-5. It beat Yuma Catholic 6-4 on Thursday.

The Trojans will play in the tournament semifinals at 11 a.m. today for a chance to play in the championship game.
