Updated boys basketball rankings as of Monday, Jan. 7:

Division I

1. Mesa 14-2

2. Desert Mountain 12-2

3. Corona del Sol 13-2

4. Cesar Chavez 14-1

5. Chaparral 12-3

6. Pinnacle 11-5

7. Gilbert 11-5

8. Carl Hayden 12-4

9. Dobson 12-5

10. Highland 12-4

Many of the ranked teams took a tumble this week. Top-ranked and previously undefeated Cesar Chavez was knocked off by Carl Hayden, dropping the Champions to No. 4. Mesa takes over the top spot by default, but will have a pair of great tests against No. 2 Desert Mountain and Mountain View this week. Highland dropped from No. 6 to No. 10 after a one-point loss to Basha, while Brophy and Westview are out of the rankings after losses this week. Pinnacle and Gilbert were idle but move up, while Carl Hayden makes a big jump after winning the Phoenix Union tournament. Dobson rejoins the rankings after cruising past Cibola.

Division II

1. Shadow Mountain 16-2

2. Sierra Linda 15-1

3. Paradise Valley 13-3

4. Catalina Foothills 12-1

5. Nogales 12-3

6. Saguaro 12-5

7. Sunnyslope 16-2

8. Poston Butte 10-4

9. Greenway 13-3

10. Sahuaro 14-5

Many of the teams had last week off, so there isn’t a bunch of movement. Nogales lost a pair of games to North and Central and drops to No. 5. Paradise Valley and Catalina Foothills take advantage by each moving up one spot, but there is no movement other than that. The schedule hits full tilt again this week.

Division III

1. Gilbert Christian 15-2

2. Thatcher 13-2

3. Window Rock 12-2

4. Cortez 12-2

5. Scottsdale Christian 8-4

The top three spots stay the same, while Cortez and Scottsdale Christian rejoin the rankings. Cortez has won six of its past seven, including a victory over Estrella Foothills, and the only loss came to Division II Sunnyslope. Scottsdale Christian knocked off Valley Christian last time out. Valley Christian and Florence drop out.

Division IV

1. Desert Christian 16-3

2. Yuma Catholic 14-1

3. Joy Christian 15-2

4. Arizona Lutheran 13-3

5. Duncan 11-3

There are no changes in this week’s Division IV rankings, as the top teams either won out or were idle.
