What began as a collection of 13-year-old Little Leaguers five years ago is now headed to the Connie Mack World Series this weekend.
The Tempe-based Arizona's Finest U18 baseball team won the West regional tournament last week in Southern California to advance. They're 51-9 this season, and have won 20 tournaments in five years, including a top-four finish in 30 of 34 competitions.
Nearly half the roster is composed of players from either Tempe Corona del Sol (Jason Fickett, Justin Klett, Chris Lopez and Aaron Foshie) or Phoenix Mountain Pointe (Nick Lira, C.J. Cron, Derrick McCawley and Jordan Madison). Tempe McClintock infielder/pitcher Mark Anderson is also part of the team, as are several kids from the West Valley.
The team is coached by Brent Foshie, Steve Klett and Rene Barreda.
