A late touchdown against the Williams Field Black Hawks defense was possibly the only mistake on a night in which the squad did just about everything right on their way to a 42-6 shellacking of the Maricopa Rams on Thursday night.

The evening started off well for host Williams Field (3-0), as halfback Kyle Gill started things off with a 49-yard touchdown run 70 seconds into the game. The score was up to 14-0 two minutes later after quarterback Jeddediah Fagg hooked up with halfback Josh Page for an efficient 47-yard touchdown reception, and Williams Field tacked on a third sizable touchdown play toward the end of the opening frame on a 55-yard punt return by senior Roman Scholtens.

“We're always trying to do the little things so those big things happen. Those big plays don't just happen,” said coach Steve Campbell.

As the offense continued to roll along – another Page touchdown reception here, a mean, shifty 50-yard touchdown run by Jacob Anderson there – the Black Hawks' defense kept finding ways to deny the Rams' offense any room to maneuver. The result was less than 250 total yards gained by the Rams, two interceptions combined by Austin Holmes and Jacob Vaught, two fumble recoveries and even a defensive touchdown in the third quarter.

“It's definitely nice to have a defense flying around and making big plays,” Campbell said.

Leading the way for the Black Hawks was Anderson, who tallied 134 yards on just four carries and a touchdown. Fagg completed six of 17 passes for 112 yards and two touchdown passes to Page. Both of Page's receptions, which totaled 62 yards, went for touchdowns.

For Maricopa, quarterback Isaiah Pedro completed nine of his 22 passes for 100 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions, with Kendric Garcia snagging two passes – one going for a touchdown, the other a lost fumble – for 32 yards. Junior halfback Giovanni Walker led the Rams in rushing with 46 yards on five carries, and senior Elijah Alvarado chipped in 53 yards on 11 carries and a lost fumble.
