What does a 129-64 record in six seasons get you at Mountain View?
In girls basketball coach Tom Bunger’s case — fired.
Bunger was told Monday afternoon in a meeting with principal Craig Luketich and athletic director A.J. Sligh that he will not be retained as coach of the Toros next year.
"They dropped a bomb on me," Bunger said. "I was caught totally off guard. Apparently it wasn’t about wins and losses so I figured it had to be some sort of malfeasance I wasn’t aware of. They told me nothing other than they felt it was time for a change."
Sligh said the school is very appreciative of what Bunger has done for the program, but the administration felt it was "time to go in a different direction."
Bunger, who has a career record of 440-192 counting 17 seasons at Prescott, guided the Toros to the state tournament five times, including the semifinals in 2001. They played in four region tournament title games and won the East Valley Region regular season title once.
