Roundup: Hall, Queen Creek edge Coronado

Tough defense in the closing minutes helped Queen Creek prevail over visiting Scottsdale Coronado 48-47 in a 4A East Sky Region boys basketball game Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs limited the Dons to just nine fourth-quarter points and utilized the scoring efforts of sophomore Preston Hall to earn the victory.

Hall scored all eight of his points in the final period, and was responsible for all but two Bulldog points in the deciding quarter.

Sophomore Ben Murray scored 10 points while adding seven rebounds and five blocks for the Bulldogs.

Jamie D’Amarel led the Dons with 17 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Amanda Ghosman’s 14 points helped Dobson beat visiting Skyline 57-42. Ghosman made the most of her free throws, going 10-for-14 from the line.

Dominique Gray grabbed 10 rebounds to go with six points for the Mustangs. Dobson is now 11-10 overall and 5-2 in the 5A East Valley Region. …

Brooke Jackson made seven 3-pointers and scored 33 points in Mountain View’s 63-37 5A East Valley Region victory over visiting Westwood. …

Desert Mountain fell to visiting Marcos de Niza 56-48 in a 5A nonregion game. Joy Burke led the Padres (15-9) with 17 points, while teammate Brianna Gholston had 16.

Katrina Graham led Wolves with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
