04/16 - Softball roundup: Marcos nips Desert Mountain in 11 innings

Kelley Drane hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the 11th inning to lead visiting Marcos de Niza past Desert Mountain, 6-5, in a 5A Central Region softball game.

Tiffany Andras homered twice and collected four RBIs for the Wolves (10-14, 1-7), while Loren Anguiano had three hits and three RBIs for the Padres (14-8, 4-4).

CHAPARRAL 10, ARCADIA 0: Erica Simington, Erica Bailey and Erin Hampshire each had three hits as the Firebirds (17-5, 5-0) roughed up the host Titans (5-15, 1-4) in 4A East Sky Region play.

Simington and Hampshire each drove in two runs and had two doubles for Chaparral.

TEMPE 7, APACHE JUNCTION 1: K'Lee Arredondo went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the host Buffaloes (11-10, 4-1) past the Prospectors in a 4A East Sky Region game. Courtney Crawford didn't allow a hit after the first inning and struck out eight to gain the victory.

CORONADO 1, SAGUARO 0: Pitcher Kyle Shrum blanked the Sabercats to lead the visiting Dons (9-9, 3-2) to a 4A East Sky Region win. Teammate Mindi Leach scored on an error in the fourth inning.

HIGLEY 10, FOUNTAIN HILLS 0: Adriana Naranjo struck out seven batters and went 2-for-3, including a double and two RBIs for the visiting Knights (15-3, 8-1) as they cruised by the Falcons in 3A West Region action. Izzy Pines doubled twice and Danielle Wildermuth had two RBIs for Higley.

SETON CATHOLIC 10, RIO RICO 0: Anna Hershkowitz had two RBIs for the host Sentinels (15-3, 11-0) as they beat the Hawks in a 3A South Region game shortened to five innings.

Seton's Liz Tobin was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

SCOTTSDALE CHRISTIAN 17, VALLEY LUTHERAN 0: Laura Yarbrough went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Eagles as they shut out the host Flames (15-2-2, 9-0) in a 2A Metro Region game.

Carissa Keen went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Brittany Feyen scored twice for Scottsdale.
