Hello everyone and welcome back to Varsity Xtra.

Our regular site is up and running again, and we’re excited for the start of another high school sports season. We’ve added some new features to varsity.evtrib.com and are planning a few more upgrades in the coming month.

You’ll notice there is now a sign-on option for the Shout Box. After registering your username and receiving an e-mail confirmation, all your posts will include a checkmark next to your username. This ensures that nobody else can sign on with your username.

People can still post anonymously if they prefer, which means people can still copy your username when posting anonymously. But there will be no checkmark next to their username, so it will be obvious that they are not the original owner of that username.

Hopefully this eliminates some of the child’s play that had been occuring.

There is also a new VX Forum just below the Shout Box. We recognized that Shout Box comments can cycle through pretty quickly because of the popularity of the site. So we added a forum where topics and comments can live for longer periods of time.

You can comment on existing topics, or start your own threads. The five most recent threads are shown on the home page. Or click the link at the bottom to go the forum home page where you’ll find all the topics and threads.

Our suggestion: The sign-ons for the Forum and Shout Box are separate, so register for one right after the other so you can guarantee you have the same username for both.

The VX Mailbag is also new. It’s your chance to ask a question about East Valley high school sports, and we’ll do our best to answer it.

If you have suggestions or story ideas, you can share those as well with the VX Story Idea option on the right-hand side of the page.

As we said, there will be more upgrades coming. Reader-submitted photos and player profile pages will be enhanced, and we’ll display our Athlete of the Week prominently on the home page.

But we couldn’t wait to get started and start talking about high school sports.
