Girls Basketball Sectionals Roundup 2/5: Dobson, Seton, Saguaro, Queen Creek advance

Dobson's girls basketball team had little trouble in a rematch with Tucson High to open the Division I, Section 2 tournament on Tuesday.

As she often has, Katherine Hamilton led the way for the Mustangs with 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Miyah Leith had 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and a couple steals of her own. Dyesha Stahley added nine points, three rebounds and four assists, and Tori Lloyd eight points, three rebounds and a whopping seven steals.

Dobson will face Hamilton in a big-time semifinals matchup on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. at Mesquite H.S.

Division II

Queen Creek 57, Maricopa 43: Makaily Worthington and Sarah Hefington both had double-doubles to lead the Bulldogs to the win and a spot in the Div. II state tournament. Worthington had 27 points and 11 rebounds, and Hefington added 16 points and 13 rebounds. Bella Ford added nine points off the bench for the Bulldogs, who face Tucson Flowing Wells on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. at Tucson Amphitheather H.S.

Seton Catholic 57, Notre Dame 40: The No. 1-ranked Sentinels in Division II got a balanced attack to open the Section 3 tournament with a win. Maddy Crites led all scorers with 15 points for Seton, Julia Barcello added 12 and 18 rebounds, and Susan Spinner scored 10 with nine assists. Monica Turley's 13 points led Notre Dame. Seton will once again face Arcadia in the semifinals on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Coronado H.S.

Saguaro 57, Campo Verde 40: Also in Section 3, Casey Rarrick had 18 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal for Saguaro. Naomi Reyes had 12 points, six rebounds and two steals. Jelani Huma contributed 11 points and seven assists, while Erika Kleinsteuber added 11 points and four rebounds. The Sabercats will face Williams Field in Thursday's semifinal at 5:45 p.m. at Coronado H.S.

Division III

Gilbert Christian 49, San Carlos 40: In Section 2, Gilbert Christian was led by Alex White with 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Colleen Young chipped in with 11 points six steals. Meg van Rijn added nine points, Leah Strittmatter had eight points and Cassidy Curtner with six points and rebounds. San Carlos led by Dana Dosela with 13 points and Mariah Kozie with 12 points. Gilbert Christian will face Safford on Friday in the semifinals at Cholla H.S. at 6 p.m.
