Skyline girls run record to 8-0: Skyline started fast and ended fast to run its record to 8-0 with a 55-50 victory against host Avondale La Joya in girls basketball action Friday night.
The Coyotes never trailed, but La Joya tied it in the fourth quarter before Skyline pulled away. Ashleigh Schoonover led Skyline with 15 points and eight rebounds and Erinn Goodman had nine points and 13 rebounds.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Courtney Roach had 20 points and Justine Johnson 19 to lead four Gilbert (6-2) players in double figures in a 78-29 rout of host Marana Mountain View. . . .
Queen Creek held Lakeside Blue Ridge to six points in the fourth quarter to win 44-40 in the Blue Ridge Tip-Off Tournament. Larissa Hedger had 19 points and 10 rebounds in the win. The win advances Queen Creek to the semifinals today against Apache Junction. . . .
Sean Charae Akins got an offensive rebound and hit the game-winning putback with eight seconds left as host Mesa got past Phoenix Camelback 46-45 in a 5A nonregion game. It was the 12th rebound of the game for Akins after a missed 3-pointer by Mikaela Avelar. Avelar finished with a game-high 12 points for the Jackrabbits (3-4).
GIRLS SOCCER
Freshman Dani DeLadina and senior Vanessa Stone each scored four goals to lead Mesquite (1-1) past Casa Grande 9-0 in a 5A nonregion game. . . .

BOYS BASKETBALL
