Just as quickly as Yuma got back into its game, Mesa Desert Ridge closed the door.
The Jaguars scored three touchdowns in slightly more than two minutes and a onepossession game early in the third quarter became a nonregion rout in Yuma.
The Jaguars scored 32 points in the second half.
Criminals defensive back John McCormick returned an interception 63 yards on the opening drive of the second half, and tailback Michael Bradley broke a 26-yard touchdown run to pull Yuma within 21-13 with 9:06 to play in the third quarter.
But Yuma gave Desert Ridge a short field on each of its next three offensive series after an unsuccessful onside kick and two consecutive turnovers. The Jaguars put the ball in the end zone each time — on a pair of Josh Cain touchdown tosses and a Chris Jamison 40-yard interception return.
Cain passed for 341 yards and five touchdowns, including a 55-yard scoring strike on the Jaguars’ first offensive snap. He also tossed touchdowns of 29, 7, 9 and 10 yards.
Desert Ridge tailback Chris Heldore totaled 206 yards from scrimmage — 146 rushing and 60 receiving. He also scored two touchdowns on the ground and caught another.
