Playing a role as possible spoiler, Westwood's softball team pulled it off perfectly.

Senior pitcher Lexi Valenzuela hurled a three-hitter in the Warriors' 3-1 victory over Mountain Pointe on Wednesday in the regular season finale.

Madison Stayner had a double and a triple and Lindsay Hineman also contributed a triple in the win. Natalie Mattison two run-scoring hits, and Savannah Shields and Emily Mattison contributed solid plays in the outfield. The loss puts Mountain Pointe squarely on the bubble to make the top 24 and earn a state tournament berth in Division I which begins on Saturday.

The brackets will be revealed on Thursday afternoon.

Mountain View 10, Skyline 0:  On "Senior Night," senior record-setter Valerie Kaff pitched a complete game no-hitter. Sidney Ryan went 3-for-3 with a single, double, and home run. Senior Cheyenne Cervantes also added two hits for the Toros, who earned a top-8 seed and first-round bye in the Div. I state tournament beginning this weekend.

Williams Field 12, Higley 1: Williams Field defeated Higley on Wednesday under the lights to close out the regular season. Travis Rowe got the win on the mound while Chris Kobar and Hudson Whillock led the charge at the plate, going a combined 7-for-8 with four RBIs. Skyler Wengert, Jeddediah Fagg, and Brady Alexander each had multi-hit days and Wengert had two RBIs and scored twice. The Black Hawks take the series 2-0, and finish out their season with a record of 20-10 overall, tying the school record for victories in a season.

Chaparral 6, Basha 0: In the first round of the Division I team state tournament, No. 2-seed Chaparral earned its place, having only lost to Xavier this year. The Firebirds' top two players are freshman, while the next four players are all seniors and played with confidence against their less experienced opponents on this day. The Bears earned the school's first trip to the state tournament this season and played today without our regular No. 4 player in freshman Chayse Olson. Basha will return five of six varsity for each of the next two years. Sophomores Rahgan Jensen and Katelynd Lesueur have had a strong showing at the individual state doubles tournament for Basha, advancing further than any Bears' entry in school history to this point. Against Mountain Ridge, Basha trailed 5-2 in the second but roared back to win a second- set tiebreaker and win a flawless third set. They then went on to upset the No. 7 seed from Desert Mountain to earn a spot against Xavier in the quarterfinals this Friday.

1. McKenzie Majarle (Chap.) defeated Rahgan Jensen (BHS), 6-2, 6-0

2. Rebecca Salaway (Chap.) defeated Jewel Brundrett (BHS), 6-0, 6-0

3. Gabbi Chernak (Chap.) defeated Katelynd Lesueur (BHS), 6-0, 6-1

4. Ally Breece (Chap.) defeated Luz Garcia (BHS), 6-1, 6-1
