Address: 3950 E. Bell Road, Phoenix; Records: Horizon 8-1, 3-1 Desert Valley; Paradise Valley 5-4, 2-2; Gametime: 7:00 p.m.
Outlook:
Sure, the Huskies and Trojans can punch their postseason tickets, but the jockeying for position still makes this Desert Valley Region matchup intriguing. Horizon, which knocked off St. Mary’s last week 24-14, sits sixth in 5A-I, while Paradise Valley, despite a 5-4 record, is fifth in 5A-II.
Trojans coach Donnie Yantis expects that tough early-season schedule to pay off at this point and beyond. The proof is in the pudding this week, however, as Paradise Valley’s four losses have come vs. teams with a combined record of 31-5, yet the Trojans’ five wins have come against teams with a combined record of 12-33.
After starting the season by winning their first four games by an average of less than a touchdown each, the Huskies have rolled off three shutouts since. Horizon has allowed just 14 points — all to St. Mary’s in a win last week — in its last four victories combined.
