Seton Catholic’s Matt Refner has made an oral commitment to attend Northern Arizona University next fall, Seton basketball coach Hosea Graham said.

Refner, a 6-foot-6 guard, averaged 12 points and six rebounds a game last season for the Sentinels. He will suit up for his third varsity season in November. Refner's outside shooting ability is what sold the Lumberjacks on him.

‘‘He shot 46 percent from 3-point range last year,’’ Graham said. ‘‘They like him as a shooting guard. We thought a couple years ago Matt might be our first Division I signing.’’

BASKETBALL

Jennifer Ekstrand of Valley Christian has made an oral commitment to attend The Master's College next fall, according to Trojans coach Scott Timmer.

Ekstrand, a 5-11 senior shooting guard, averaged 15 points per game last season in leading the Trojans to the 2A state championship game.

The Master's is an NAIA school in Santa Clarita, Calif.

Desert Mountain senior point guard Erin Greenberg will make her final official recruiting visit this weekend when she travels to Abilene (Texas) Christian. She has narrowed her list of possible colleges to Abilene Christian, Texas Christian and Lehigh.

Two of the schools have offered her an athletic scholarship and Texas Christian is expected to offer one in the next month. The 5-9 second-team All-Tribune player will play shooting guard or small forward in college.

FOOTBALL

Eleven 5A schools are unbeaten after three weeks of play, but only one of the 11 has played a schedule with an aggregate winning record. Mountain View's three opponents so far have a record of 6-3. The next best records of the unbeatens, in order, are: Glendale Mountain Ridge (4-5); Phoenix Alhambra (4-5); Tucson Sahuaro (4-5); Yuma (3-6); Paradise Valley (3-6); Peoria (3-6); Sierra Vista Buena (3-7); Marana Mountain View (3-7); Phoenix Goldwater (2-7) and Marcos de Niza (2-7).
