Desert Mountain got into the win column Thursday night, beating host Phoenix Central 21-13 in a 5A non-region game.
The win ended the Wolves' nine-game losing streak. Their last victory came on Sept. 25, 2003, a 44-14 triumph over Central.
Desert Mountain jumped out to a 14-0 lead thanks to the combination of Mike Dufek and Mike Penno. Dufek completed scoring passes to Penno for 13 and 8 yards.
Central pulled to within a touchdown before halftime on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Nathan Richardson to Kirale Jackson. Desert Mountain tacked on another touchdown in the third quarter, getting a 31-yard scoring run by Vince Rana that made the score 21-7.
